NexGard is a modern systemic insecto-acaricidal drug for dogs in the form of a tasty chewable tablet. After administration, the active ingredient afoxolaner is rapidly absorbed and provides reliable protection against fleas and ticks for 1 month. The drug is also used in treatment regimens for demodicosis, sarcoptic mange, and otodectosis.

Active ingredient and principle of action

Afoxolaner is an insectoacaricide of the isoxazoline group.

Mechanism: blocks GABA-dependent receptors of parasites → nerve impulse transmission is disrupted → paralysis and death of ectoparasites occur.

Active against:

flea: Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis

ticks: Dermacentor variabilis, D. reticulatus, Ixodes ricinus, I. scapularis, I. hexagonus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Amblyomma americanum, Haemaphysalis longicornis, etc.

Prevention and treatment of flea and tick infestation

In treatment regimens: demodicosis, sarcoptic mange, otodectosis

Dosage and how to give

Application: orally with food or by force

Dose: 2.7–6.9 mg/kg body weight

Treatment against fleas/ticks: 1 time in 4 weeks (especially during the parasite activity season)

For dogs over 50 kg — select a combination of tablets

Choose a tablet by weight (afoxolaner dosage)

Schemes for dermatological/tick lesions (according to instructions)

Demodecosis: 1 time per month until two negative scrapings are obtained (with an interval of 1 month); in severe cases - longer as prescribed by a doctor

Sarcoptic mange: 1 time per month for 2 months, then - according to the clinic and scrapings

Otodectosis: once, if necessary - repeat after 1 month according to the results of the examination

Contraindications and precautions

Contraindications:

individual sensitivity to the drug

do not give to sick, exhausted, weakened animals

do not use in animals of other species

Special precautions:

use in puppies up to 8 weeks and/or up to 2 kg - only after risk assessment
