Tablets for regulating sexual activity in cats and dogs (megestrol acetate)

The drug based on megestrol acetate is an effective hormonal agent for controlling sexual activity, delaying or stopping estrus, as well as preventing unwanted pregnancy in cats and dogs. The drug is widely used in veterinary practice to correct unwanted behavior associated with sexual arousal.

The drug has antiestrogenic and antiovulatory effects, is well absorbed from the digestive tract, is metabolized in the liver and is excreted from the body mainly in the urine within 1–2 days.

Description of the drug:

Composition:

1 tablet (70 mg) contains:

megestrol acetate - 5.0 mg (active ingredient)

Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, povidone, croscarmellose sodium, calcium stearate, corn starch.

Dosage and method of administration

Used orally with food or forcibly on the root of the tongue.

Cats:

to calm sexual arousal - 1 tablet once a day for 3-5 days

Cats:

to prevent estrus - 1 tablet every 10-14 days

(estrus occurs approximately 14 days after discontinuation of the drug)

to stop estrus - 1 tablet daily for 3-5 days from the moment of appearance of signs

as a contraceptive - 3 tablets during the day after mating

Bitches:

to prevent estrus - 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight once a day for 14 days

to stop estrus - 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight for 7 days

as a contraceptive - 2 tablets per 5 kg of body weight daily for 2 days after mating

Dogs:

to reduce sexual arousal - 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight daily for 5 days

Contraindications

diseases of the reproductive system (pyometra, metritis, endometritis)

mammary tumors

diabetes mellitus

immature animals

pregnant and lactating females

hypersensitivity to the components of the drug

Not recommended for use in young females before the first heat or as anestrus therapy.

Caution: the drug should be used only under the supervision of a veterinarian.
